At an un-named cafe in Dundrum (and is probably the case in many coffee shops all over the country) I have noticed something surprisingly funny. A large white coffee is €2.20 but a Latte is €3.25. Except they’re exactly the same thing. Now, technically they shouldn’t be - it should be filter coffee with hot milk, but because most places now make a white coffee the same way as they make a latte they are to all intents and purposes the same, except for the posh sounding name, which is apparently worth €1.05.

….is cocky pricks who feel the need to correct your spelling or grammar on the internet. Especially if you’re writing a blog or something suitably informal. Are people really that devoid of a life that they have to go around the net and point out how great they are to others.
Fucking assholes.

And the Government wants to give these f@£&ers more money while hiking the tax rates because of a “shortfall in revenue.”

| love this place although I don’t go there nearly enough. They sell fresh organic fruit and vegetables and even meat and it’s not expensive, and, more importantly most of it is far superior to what you’ll get in the supermarkets. More than that, it’s an escape from the hectic-ness of city life, of microwave dinners and self service supermarket checkouts. It’s a slowness that you can really appreciate on a Saturday after a hectic week. It’s a way of life I wish I could partake in all the time.
It’s there every Saturday morning in Marley Park, so if you live nearby it’s well worth a trip.

If there was a big snow storm in Australia that was lasting a long time and people were going there just to see it would they say…
“I’m off to see the blizzard, the wonderful blizzard of oz ?”

I hate not being able to sleep. Mind you you would think I would be used to it by now as I’ve suffered from bouts of insomnia for as far back as I can remember. So I’m lying here in bed wide awake at 4.30 am tapping this out on my iphone and wondering if it’s worth even trying to get to sleep now at this stage.
The iPhone is great when you can’t sleep. Middle of the night checking the latest goings on - no problem. There’s even some cool ambient noise generators mind you they don’t seem to be working. It’s kind of hard to take the sound of the rainforest seriously when it is zero degrees outside.
It’s amazing how much ambient noise there actually is at 4.37 am. I think my boiler is going. I guess I really should have changed the clock back on that one. Or forward.
It’s funny how we never really just stop and listen. We always try to fill silence with something whether it’s the radio or the tv or your iPod or troopcal rain forest sounds number four. But if you just listen the sound of the wind and even the odd car on the road is actually quite melodic. And soothing. I wouldn’t be surprised if I nodded off soo…..

Just read this on the Irish Times…
All Irsh pork products have been recalled tonight because of fears that animal feed has been contaminated with harmful toxins.
[From Recall of Irish pork over contamination fears - The Irish Times - Sat, Dec 06, 2008]
Lovely. I’m glad I haven’t eaten anything with pork in it for the last little while. Oh crap, I had sausages the other night.

I just watched The Dark Knight (on blu-ray) as I had missed it when it was in the cinema. That was a damn good movie. Heath Ledger’s Joker really was the epitome of pure evil. I don’t think any of the previous Jokers, even Jack Nicholson could hold a candle to ledger’s portrayal of a complete and utter psychopath.
It’s funny though, it would have actually made a great cop movie in it’s own right - even without batman. It kind of reminded me of a mash-up of die-hard 3 and that great old film “The Taking of Phellam One Two Three“.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth checking out.

I left work tonight and headed home like I normally do. Got the Luas to Dundrum. Popped home, went down to the shopping center to get some food then headed home again. Not much of interest there you say. But here’s the thing. In that space of time, on that relatively short journey, between the time I left work and the time I got home I counted 6 times that when I was waiting at a pedestrian crossing and about to cross that someone ran a red light. 6 fracking times. And what’s worse on one of those occasions there was a Guard (cop) was standing by (presumably from operation freeflow) watching and didn’t seem too pushed.
I mean, what the fuck?
It seems to be a trait of a lot of drivers in Ireland that they seem to think that the rules of the road are meerely guidelines.
So, piece of advice - if you’re at a pedestrian crossing in this country never assume that the person in the car closing on you rapidly is actually going to stop.
Oh, and incidentally, 3 of those 6 were taxis. What a shock.

looks like we’re going to get a proper winter this year. This morning was bloody cold and it was very VERY frosty. We’ve had a couple of cold snaps already this year, and normally it doesn’t really get this cold until January or February. The last few years we’ve had rain and wind and storms but not a real hard winter. This year though it already feels like it. Of course I love winter. Well, a proper winter. I don’t mind the cold so long as it’s dry. I love snow too but it’s been so long since we had a proper fall of snow.
Anyway, that aside here are some pictures of the frost from this morning. (Click to go to the gallery)
